Academic InformationTransfer Student RequirementsPrevious graduate work will be evaluated on an individual basis. Only transfercredit that is no more than three years old will be accepted. At least 80 percent ofthe credits used to meet the requirements of the major must be taken in programsthat meet <strong>Bethel</strong> residency requirements. In each major certain courses are requiredto be taken in residence. Students who complete the requirements for transferof credit will receive an individual education plan (IEP) indicating which <strong>Bethel</strong>courses may be waived, which must be audited, and which courses from otherinstitutions will be accepted in transfer (see: Advanced Standing).Course Enrollment Limitations<strong>Graduate</strong> <strong>School</strong> courses are not open to students currently enrolled in the Collegeof Arts & Sciences at <strong>Bethel</strong> <strong>University</strong>.Extracurricular ActivitiesStudents in the <strong>Graduate</strong> <strong>School</strong> are not eligible to participate in the College ofArts & Sciences-sponsored extracurricular organizations and programs includingcompetition sports, music ensembles, and study abroad programs.Calendar and Student Load<strong>Bethel</strong> <strong>University</strong> operates on a semester calendar. Each cohort is provided a courseschedule that shows the calendar of class sessions for the full program.Student load for each semester is as follows:1. Full time = six credits or more per semester2. Part time = fewer than six creditsa. Half time = at least three creditsb. Less than half time = fewer than three creditsApplying for an extension or a grade of Incomplete in a course does not extend astudent’s enrollment beyond the final date of class. Dropping below full-time statusmay affect the student’s eligibility for certain financial aid programs.Summer CoursesSome majors may require course work during day or evening hours in the summermonths. Consult the cohort course schedule, which shows the calendar of classsessions for the full program.28
