Course DescriptionsEconomicsECON635 • Managerial Economics(BUAG)3 creditsStudy of global economic complexities, including traditional international economicsand macroeconomics. Focus is on the larger economic forces that shapethe global economic landscape. Application of the tools of microeconomics andinternational economics to illustrate how globalization influences performance,strategy, and policy within firms. Discussion topics include: free trade versus fairtrade, sustainable development, and environmental factors. Development of aframework for analyzing both opportunities and risks in a global economic environment.Prerequisites: BUSN600, BUSN615, BUSN621, BUSN625.EducationEDUC600 • Explorations in K–12 Literature(CTRD, EDUG, LIEG)3 creditsOverview of the fields of children’s and adolescent literature with an emphasis onthe use of tradebooks in the classroom. Learners will read and critically review awide variety of genres across a span of age groups as well as develop a bibliographyfor future curriculum development in EDUC602, EDUC607, and EDUC612.EDUC601 • Foundations of Reading(CTRD, EDUG, LIEG)2 creditsIntroduction to the historical and pedagogical issues related to the field of readinginstruction. Examination of the reading process from both a psychological andsocio-cultural perspective. Emphasis on current educational principles as theyrelate to the cognitive, linguistic development of children, preadolescents, andadolescents. Review of current research as well as national initiatives in readinginstruction.EDUC602 • Reading Instruction in Primary Grades(CTRD, EDUG, LIEG)2 creditsFocus is on the development of reading proficiency in young children, grades K–2.Best practices in literacy that foster phonemic awareness, alphabet recognition,phonology, and word study. Design and implementation of a developmentallyappropriate curriculum and instructional strategies for a wide range of abilitiesin literacy for young students. Prerequisites: EDUC600, EDUC601.87
