Course DescriptionsEDUC635 • Reading Clinic(LIEG)933 creditsA practicum designed to give learners clinical experience. Application of bestpractices in assessment and analysis of data. Select materials and plan instructionfor students who are in need of an intervention or remediation. Application ofeffective practice in teaching students in a clinical experience in either an elementary,middle level, or high school program. Prerequisites: EDUC600, EDUC601,EDUC602, EDUC607, EDUC612, EDUC622, EDUC626.EDUC636 • Consultation and Collaboration(SPEG)2 creditsFocus is on the communication skills necessary to consult and collaborate effectivelywith parents, administrators, teachers, and agency personnel about thespecial needs of students. Learners will become acquainted with some of themany outside agencies that also deal with the special needs of students and theirfamilies. Examination of interagency coordination from both a legal and practicalstandpoint.EDUC638 • Portfolio Seminar(TEAG)1 creditFocus is on completing a professional portfolio which uses a series of artifacts andreflections to demonstrate that an individual seeking a license has met the MinnesotaStandards for Effective Teaching Practices (MNSEP) and content area standards sothat the learner can be recommended for a specific 5–12 or K–12 license. Classparticipants will analyze professional standards, select artifacts which demonstratemastery of those standards, write portfolio reflections that connect the standardsand artifacts, and organize a documentation portfolio or e-folio suitable for theMNSEP requirements.EDUC640 • Portfolio Design(LIEG)1 creditA workshop for learners on how to prepare a professional documentation portfolio.The portfolio will be part of the requirements for the application to the BOT Teachersof Reading License. It will cover the 26 competencies outlined by the Boardof Teaching Outcomes, 8710.4725. Assists learners in selection of representativeartifacts, the creation of written reflections, and the process of documentation ofperformance. Graded on an S/U basis.EDUC642 • Advanced Diagnosis and Remediation(EDUG, LIEG)2 creditsDesigned for practitioners who have the responsibility for assessing, developing,and administrating compensatory programs for students experiencing difficultiesin reading. Focus is on the nature and causes of reading difficulties. Considerationsin addressing the instructional needs of students experiencing reading difficulties.Exploration of assessment instruments; and focus on effective remediationpractices.
