WWW.SURVIVALEBOOKS.COMFM 1-506a self-contained, recirculating dry-sump system. It consistsof the following subsystems and components:Oil supply and scavenge pump.Seal pressurization and sump ventingEmergency lube system.Oil filtration and condition monitoring.Tank and air-oil cooler.Oil cooler.Oil pressure monitoring.Cold oil-relief and cooler-bypas valves.Chip detector.Integral accessory gearboxinstalled on each side of the tank. A coarse pickup screenlocated near the tank bottom keeps sizable debris fromentering the lube supply pump inlet. A drain plug islocated at the bottom of the tank.Oil from the pickup screen enters a east passage inthe mainframe. It is then conducted to the top of theengine to a point beneath the lube supply pump. A shortconnector tube transfers the oil from the mainframe tothe accessory gearbox pump inlet port. The connectortube contains a domed, coarse-debris screen. The screenkeeps foreign objects out of the passage when the accessorymodule is not installed on the mainframe. Oil flowsthrough the connector tube to the pump inlet. There itLube Supply SystemThe oil tank, integral with the mainframe, holdsapproximately 7.3 quarts of oil (Figure 5-9). This is asufficient quantity to lubricate the required engine partswithout an external oil supply. The tank is filled using a3-inch, gravity-fill port on the right-hand side. Visualindication of oil level is supplied by a fluid level indicatorenters the pump tangentially in alignment with pumprotational direction. The lube supply pump, a Geroter-type pumpingelement assembly, . is comprised of an inner and outerelement. The element assembly is located adjacent to thedrive spline end of the pump. Six scavenge elements arealso located in tandem on the common drive shaft. The5-8
