Radiology Integrated Training Initiative (R-ITI)
Saturday, March 10, 08:30–10:00, Room Z
This session describes the Royal College of
Radiologists’ Integrated Training Initiative (ITI)
– a national e-learning development for radiology
training in the UK. We describe the circumstances
and environment of traditional radiology training in
the UK, and the drivers for change.
The presentations describe the project from its
inception, through development of the basic concept
to materials, delivery and to future applications and
developments.
We will present in detail the educational design
and the national structure for e-learning content
delivery: both as tutorial-style, interactive e-learning
sessions (eLD) and the creation of a national
resource of validated teaching cases – the Validated
Case Archive (VCA). We will outline how these
components support directed and self-directed
learning and will present options for different
learning environments, including purpose-built
facilities.
Assessment is a fundamental component in the
design, and we show how the project incorporates
elements of both formative and summative
assessment; how this is designed, delivered,
undertaken and recorded. Future developments for
CME, revalidation, appraisal and even professional
examinations are explored.
Learning Objectives:
• Understand the potential uses of e-learning in
radiology training.
• Understand that creating learning materials
presents different challenges to creating
teaching materials.
• Formulate a structure for the delivery of a largescale
e-learning radiology project
• Be aware of the problems and challenges that
such a project entails
