1. To help diagnostic imaging professionals understand the magnitude of errors that occur in hospitals and<br />

the resultant unwarranted deaths and complications that result therefrom.<br />

2. To introduce the concepts of modern manufacturing beginning with the introduction of the automobile<br />

around 1900 and the transformation fi rst to mass production (Ford motor company) and then to modern<br />

manufacturing (Toyota).<br />

3. To briefl y show that these same concepts can be applied to hospitals to dramatically reduce the incidence<br />

of unwanted complications and improve quality outcomes.<br />

4. To encourage diagnostic radiologists to adopt these same methods to improve the quality of outcomes<br />

resulting from diagnostic imaging procedures.<br />
