Session Objectives:
1. To give an overview of new challenges and possible solutions in image management inside large
academic institutions and health care networks. This session will particularly focus on the following three
areas:
2. To describe and understand the new challenges of management of large datasets generated from new
generation of multimodality imaging devices "The bottomless storage vault".
3. To inform and educate the participants on the emergence of new paradigms and fi nancial models that
could provide alternative solutions to PACS and image management systems "The OpenSource solution".
4. To explain and demonstrate new workfl ow patterns for image management that are needed outside the
diagnostic radiology department. In particular to analyse and review the new requirements for imageassisted
interventional and surgical procedures "The surgical PACS".
