Learning Objectives:
1. To describe the general philosophy of the European Community legislation on occupational health and
safety.
2. To explain the context and the history of the adoption of directive 2004/40/EC of the European Parliament
and of the Council of 29 April 2004 on the minimum requirements regarding exposure of workers to the
risks arising from physical agents (electromagnetic fi elds).
3. To give an update on actions initiated by the European Commission as a follow-up of the concerns
expressed by representatives of the MRI practitioners.
