1. To describe the general philosophy of the European Community legislation on occupational health and<br />

safety.<br />

2. To explain the context and the history of the adoption of directive 2004/40/EC of the European Parliament<br />

and of the Council of 29 April 2004 on the minimum requirements regarding exposure of workers to the<br />

risks arising from physical agents (electromagnetic fi elds).<br />

3. To give an update on actions initiated by the European Commission as a follow-up of the concerns<br />

expressed by representatives of the MRI practitioners.<br />
