INSUL-LOCK ® TECHNICAL INFORMATIONUL 94(Recognition No. E300774)Refer to K-Flex USA L.L.C.Made in USAContains a ProtectiveAntimicrobial AgentDescriptionINSUL-LOCK ® is environmentally friendly,CFC-free, flexible elastomeric thermal insulation. It is pre-slit with a factory-appliedpressure sensitive adhesive on both seamsurfaces. It is black in color and is availableup to 1” wall thickness and 4" IPS. INSUL-LOCK ® key physical properties are approvedthrough supervision by Factory MutualResearch Corporation.INSUL-LOCK ® is non-porous, fiber-free andresists mold growth. An EPA-registeredantimicrobial agent is incorporated intothe product to provide additional protectionagainst mold, fungal and bacterial growth.INSUL-LOCK ® is GREENGUARD ® certified asa low VOC material, meeting the requirementsof the“Children & Schools” and“Indoor Air Quality” classifications.ApplicationsINSUL-LOCK ® is used to retard heat flow andprevent condensation on refrigerant lines, cold water plumbing, roof drains and chilledwater systems. INSUL-LOCK ® is recommendedfor applications ranging from -70°Fto 200°F (-57°C to 93°C) for both new andexisting applications and can be used withheat tracing/heat tapes. For best results, store and install INSUL-LOCK ® at temperaturesabove 40°F (4°C).InstallationINSUL-LOCK ® is designed for quick and easyinstallation: slip on the tube, pull built-inrelease liners, pinch tube shut and applypressure at the seams. The seam should bepositioned on the bottom of the pipe. Seetechnical bulletin for installation instructionsin cold temperatures. All butt joints must be sealed with anapproved contact adhesive. Fittings arefabricated from miter-cut tubular sections ofINSUL-TUBE ® , and covers, flanges, etc fromINSUL-SHEET ® . K-FIT ® factory-fabricatedfittings are also available. INSUL-LOCK ® ’sclosure system is designed to save on laborcosts, particularly on straight runs. It greatlyreduces the use of contact adhesives, allowingfor improved working conditions andcompliance with OSHA requirements.Outdoor ApplicationsINSUL-LOCK ® is made from a UV-resistantelastomeric blend. However, when subjectto severe UV exposure (rooftop applications)or where optimum performance is required,K-FLEX ® 374 Protective Coating, approvedjacketing or K-FLEX Clad ® AL or WT shouldbe used. Similar to indoor applications, theseam should be positioned on the bottom ofthe pipe.FEATURES & BENEFITS• Faster installation• Easier handling (3-foot lengths)• Ideal for straight runs• Less use of contact adhesivesResistance to MoistureVapor FlowThe closed cell structure of INSUL-LOCK ®effectively retards the flow of moisturevapor and is considered a low transmittancevapor retarder. For most indoor applications,INSUL-LOCK ® needs no additional protection.Additional vapor barrier protection may benecessary for INSUL-LOCK ® when installed onlow temperature surfaces that are exposed tocontinuous high humidity.Flame and Smoke RatingINSUL-LOCK ® in thicknesses up to 1" (25mm) has a flame spread rating of 25 orless and a smoke development rating of50 or less as tested by ASTM E 84,“SurfaceBurning Characteristics of Building Materials”.INSUL-LOCK ® is acceptable for use induct/plenum cover applications meeting therequirements of NFPA 90A/B.Numerical flammability ratings alone may not definethe performance of products under actual fire conditions. They are provided only for use in the selection ofproducts to meet limits specified, when compared to aknown standard.PAGE 30
