K-FLEX ® 720 LVOC CONTACT ADHESIVE TECHNICAL INFORMATIONMade in USADESCRIPTIONK-FLEX ® 720-LVOC Contact Adhesive is anair-drying solvent-based (acetone) contactadhesive that is excellent for joiningseams and butt joints of elastomeric pipeand Sheet Insulation. It is black in colorfor excellent aesthetics. K-FLEX ® 720-LVOCContact Adhesive forms a tough, flexiblemoisture- and heat-resistant bond whenused with elastomeric products. K-FLEX ®720-LVOC Contact Adhesive’s lowerviscosity allows it to be applied easily. It isideal for bonding porous and non-porousmaterials, as it will not be absorbed easily.K-FLEX ® 720-LVOC Contact adhesive alsomeets Southcoast Air Quality ManagementRule 1168 (SCAQMD) and LEED (Leadershipin Energy and Environmental Design)VOC emission regulations.Caution: Adhesive contains notable solventsand container, when not in use, shouldbe kept closed. Keep adhesive away fromsparks and open flames. Use with adequateventilation and avoid excessive contact withthe skin.USESK-FLEX ® 720-LVOC Contact Adhesive maybe used for bonding elastomeric productsto a variety of materials (i.e., otherelastomers, metal, wood, leather, felt, concrete, etc.). The adhesive will makea resilient and heat-resistant bond. It issuitable for line temperatures up to 250˚F(121˚C) and 300˚F (150˚C) intermittent onapplications requiring bonded seams andjoints. When the adhesive is applied tolarge flat or curve surfaces, it is suitablefor temperatures up to 200˚F (93˚C). Theproduct is supplied in quarts. It containsno halogens, making it ideal for use withK-FLEX ECO (non-halogen) insulation.APPLICATION INSTRUCTIONSFor proper adhesion, the surfaces to whichthe insulation is to be applied must bethoroughly cleaned, dry and unheated.Primed and painted surfaces should beadhesive tested to be sure the insulationwill not lift off after application. The adhesiveshould be thoroughly mixed. Brushor roll a thin even coat of adhesive on bothsurfaces to be joined. Allow the adhesivefilms to become dry to the touch, but tacky, before joining the surfaces. Press the twosurfaces together. Be sure the insulationis in the desired position before theadhesive surfaces make initial contact, since the adhesive forms an instant bond, and repositioning after contact is difficult.Moderate pressure should then be appliedto the entire bonding area to ensurecomplete contact. Avoid heat, sparks, andopen flames, and use only proper ventilation.Close container after use.K-FLEX ® 720-LVOC Contact Adhesiveshould be applied at above 40˚F (4˚C)temperatures, and allowed to dry for 24hours before equipment operation. Protectivecoatings can be applied to applicationswith bonded joints and seams, afterallowing 24 hours dry time. Applicationssuch as large tanks, or vessels where fulladhesive coverage is required, must beallowed to dry 7 days prior to applying aprotective coating. Thinning the adhesiveis not recommended. Common lacquerthinners (Xylol or Trichloroethylene) can beused for clean up.PAGE 54
