K-FLEX ECO TECHNICAL INFORMATIONUL 94(Recognition No. E300774)Made in USARefer to K-Flex USA L.L.C.DESCRIPTIONK-FLEX ECO is a halogen-free, closed cellelastomeric insulation. It is green in colorand is available in tube and sheet form.Tube sizes range from 3/8” inside diameterto 8” IPS, in 1/2”, 3/4” and 1” wall thickness.Sheets and rolls are available in 1/2”,3/4” and 1” thickness (1-1/2” skin-2-side).K-FLEX ECO does not contain carbonblack in accordance with United StatesNavy Environmental Department standards.Additionally, K-FLEX ECO does notcontain fibers, PVC, or CFCs.APPLICATIONSK-FLEX ECO was developed for applicationswhere corrosive smoke and environmentalissues (toxicity) are critical. It issuitable for piping, vessels, and duct workon United States Naval Ships, the generalmaritime industry, and other industrialapplications. K-FLEX ECO is certified toElectric Boat Corporation Specification EB4013 and meets the requirements specifiedby the International Maritime Organizationper the SOLAS Agreement.K-FLEX ECO is used to insulate hot pipingup to 300°F (1” thickness minimum). Itcan be used as an alternative to low-temperaturefiberglass, calcium silicate andpolyimide insulation. K-FLEX ECO canbe used on 50 lb. steam lines with designtemperatures up to 300°F (1” thicknessminimum). Used under these conditions acomparable thin layer of discolored hardenedmaterial in the inner wall will form. This constitutes a normal reaction and doesnot in any way adversely affect the insulationproperties of the foam.K-FLEX ECO is also used on cruise shipsand other commercial vessels. It is suitablefor use in industrial and commercial areasas well, including clean rooms and food /beverage manufacturing facilities where afiber-free environment is specified.K-FLEX ECO is well-suited for stainlesssteel applications since it does not containhalogens that are known to contribute tocorrosion problems.INSTALLATIONK-FLEX ECO is applied following theguidelines used for all K-FLEX USA elastomericinsulation products. Tubing slideseasily over piping, or for existing lines, tubingis slit lengthwise and sealed into place. All seams and joints should be sealed withan approved contact adhesive. K-FLEX ®720 LVOC Contact Adhesive is a halogenfreecontact adhesive suitable for use withK-FLEX ECO.When K-FLEX ECO is applied to vesselsand duct work, use 100% coverage of anapproved contact adhesive. Both surfacesto be joined should be coated and thenjoined after the adhesive is dry to the touch.Compression joints with adhesive appliedshould be used on all butt edges. For detailedinstallation procedures, reference theK-FLEX USA Insulation Installation Guide.RESISTANCE TO MOISTUREVAPOR FLOWThe closed cell structure and uniqueformulation of K-FLEX ECO effectivelyretards the flow of moisture vapor, and isconsidered a diffusion resistant insulation. For most applications, K-FLEX ECOrequires no additional protection. Additionalvapor barrier protection may be necessaryfor K-FLEX ECO when installed on lowtemperature surfaces in combination withcontinuous high humidity conditions.PAGE 87
