They areproduced under controlled conditions in ourmanufacturing facility using an automatedprocess to ensure uniformity, compression fitand water-tight seams.K-FIT ® Prefabricated Fittings are availablein wall thicknesses of 1/2”, 3/4”, 1”, 1-1/4”and 1-1/2” in sizes ranging from 3/8” I.D.to 6” IPS. In addition, they are available inGrooved Pipe sizes. K-FIT ® PrefabricatedFittings are available in 45’s, 90’s, P-Trapand Tee’s in all K-FLEX elastomeric products- Black, White, and K-FLEX ECO.K-FIT ® Prefabricated Fittings are non-porous,fiber-free, environmentally friendly, CFC-free,and resist mold growth.APPLICATIONSK-FIT ® Prefabricated Fittings are used toretard heat gain and prevent condensation orfrost formation on refrigerant lines, cold waterplumbing, and chilled water systems. Theyalso retard heat loss for hot water plumbing,liquid heating, dual temperature piping andsolar systems. K-FIT ® Prefabricated Fittingsare manufactured from standard insulationand are recommended for applicationsranging from -297˚F to 220˚F (-182˚C to104˚C). Fittings manufactured from K-FLEXECO have a temperature range up to 300˚F(150˚C). The expanded closed cell structuremakes K-FIT ® Prefabricated Fittings anefficient insulator and an effective moisturevapor retarder.INSTALLATIONInstallation of K-FIT ® Prefabricated Fittingsare easy, fast and provide a reliable installationsystem. For best installation results,apply fittings prior to straight run insulation.Step 1: Slit Fitting.Step 2: Apply contact adhesive to longitudinalseam (both surfaces).Step 3: Allow adhesive to become tacky.Step 4: Apply fitting to pipe.Step 5: Apply pressure to seam.Step 6: Install straight pipe insulation andadhere to fittings.K-FIT ® P-Traps are specifically designed tofit Mueller Industries Suction Line P-Traps.K-FLEX USA will not warrant the fit of itsK-FIT ® P-Trap for any other manufacturer’ssuction line P-Trap.OUTDOOR APPLICATIONSK-FIT ® Prefabricated Fittings are madefrom a UV-resistant elastomeric blend. Formoderate UV exposure applications, noadditional protection is needed. However,for severe UV exposure applications (rooftopapplications) or where optimum performanceis required, K-FLEX ® 374 ProtectiveCoating, appropriate jacketing or K-FLEXClad ® AL should be used. For more detailedinformation refer to the Installation Guide.RESISTANCE TO MOISTUREVAPOR FLOWThe closed cell structure and uniqueformulation of K-FIT ® Prefabricated Fittingseffectively retards the flow of moisture vapor,and is considered a low transmittancevapor retarder. For most indoor applications,K-FIT ® Prefabricated Fittings need no additionalprotection. Additional vapor barrierprotection may be necessary for K-FIT ®Prefabricated Fittings when installed on lowtemperature surfaces that are exposed tocontinuous high humidity.FLAME AND SMOKE RATING*K-FIT ® Prefabricated Fittings in wall thicknessesof 1-1/2” (38 mm) and below havea flame spread rating of 25 or less and asmoke development rating of 50 or less astested according to ASTM E 84, “SurfaceBurning Characteristics of BuildingMaterials”.K-FIT ® Prefabricated Fittings are acceptablefor use in duct/plenum applications meetingthe requirements of NFPA 90A/B. This doesnot apply to fittings made from K-FLEXECO.Numerical flammability ratings alone may not definethe performance of products under actual fire conditions.They are provided only for use in the selection ofproducts to meet limits specified when compared to aknown standard.PAGE 59
