INSUL-TUBE ® COIL TECHNICAL INFORMATIONUL 94(Recognition No. E300774)Refer to K-Flex USA L.L.C.Made in USAContains a ProtectiveAntimicrobial AgentDESCRIPTIONINSUL-TUBE ® Coil pipe insulation is environmentallyfriendly, CFC-free, flexibleelastomeric thermal insulation. It is availableas continuous length, unslit tubing upto 1” thickness in lengths ranging from 250ft to 2800 ft depending on ID size and wallthickness. INSUL-TUBE ® COIL key physicalproperties are approved through supervisionby Factory Mutual Research Corporation.INSUL-TUBE ® COIL is non-porous, fiberfreeand resists mold, fungal and bacterialgrowth. K-FLEX USA elastomeric insulationproducts are GREENGUARD® certified forlow VOC content and meet the requirementsof the “Children and Schools” classificationand “Microbial Resistant” listing.APPLICATIONSINSUL-TUBE ® COIL is used to preventcondensation or frost formation on line setsor extended length copper piping for chilledwater or refrigeration systems. It also retardsheat flow for hot water plumbing, liquidheating, dual temperature piping, and manysolar systems.INSUL-TUBE ® COIL is recommended forapplications ranging from -297°F to 220°F(-182°C to 104°C). The expanded closed-cellstructure makes INSUL-TUBE ® COIL an efficientinsulator and provides effective moisturevapor resistance. INSUL-TUBE ® COIL canbe used with heat tracing/heat tapes.INSUL-TUBE ® COIL is tough enough to withstandtearing, rough handling, and severeenvironmental conditions, but has superiorflexibility for easy installation, including incold weather.INSTALLATIONINSUL-TUBE ® Coils are best applied tostraight runs free of corners and bends. Offeredwith or without a factory-applied coatingof talc on the inner surface for effortlesssliding, INSUL-TUBE ® COIL slides easily overpipe or tubing for quick installation. All buttjoints should be sealed with K-FLEX ® ContactAdhesive, making sure both surfaces to bejoined are coated with adhesive.OUTDOOR APPLICATIONSINSUL-TUBE ® COIL Pipe Insulation is madefrom a UV-resistant elastomeric blend. Forsevere UV exposure (rooftop applications),K-FLEX ® 374 Protective Coating or approvedjacketing should be used.UNDERGROUNDFor buried lines above the water table, use aclean fill such as sand (3”-5” layer) to protectINSUL-TUBE ® COIL before backfilling. Itis recommended that materials to be buriedare properly sealed at all seams and buttjoints with an approved contact adhesive. For optimum performance, the lines shouldbe encased in a conduit to protect them fromproblems associated with ground water andcompaction.RESISTANCE TO MOISTUREVAPOR FLOWThe closed-cell structure and uniqueformulation of INSUL-TUBE ® COIL effectivelyretards the flow of moisture vapor, and is considered a low transmittance vaporretarder. For most indoor applications, INSUL-TUBE ® COIL needs no additional protection.Additional vapor barrier protection may benecessary for INSUL-TUBE ® COIL when installedon low temperature surfaces that areexposed to continuous high humidity.FLAME AND SMOKE RATINGINSUL-TUBE ® COIL pipe insulation in wallthicknesses of 1” (50 mm) and below hasa flame spread rating of 25 or less and asmoke development rating of 50 or lessas tested by ASTM E 84 Method of Testingentitled: “Surface Burning Characteristicsof Building Materials”. INSUL-TUBE ® COILis acceptable for duct/plenum applications, meeting the requirements of NFPA 90A/B.Numerical flammability ratings alone may notdefine the performance of products under actualfire conditions. They are provided only forus in the selection of products to meet limitsspecified, when compared to a known standard.SPECIFICATION COMPLIANCE• ASTM C 534 Type 1 (Tubing), Grade 1• ASTM D 1056-00-2B1• New York City MEA 186-86-M Vol. V• UL 94-5V Flammability ClassificationRecognition No. E300774)• ASTM E 84 1” 25/50-tested accordingto UL 723 and NFPA 255• Complies with requirements ofCAN/ULC S102-03• FMRC Approval Guide Chapter 14 PipeInsulation• NFPA No. 101 Class A Rating• Meets requirements of NFPA 90A Sect. 2.3.3for Supplementary Materials for AirDistribution Systems• Meets requirements of ASTM C 411(Test Method for Hot Surface Performance ofHigh Temperature Thermal Insulation)• Meets requirements of UL 181 sections 11.0and 16.0 (Mold Growth/Air Erosion)• MIL-P-15280, For T (Tubing)PAGE 36
