The platforms used by the system allconsist of pairs of boxes, allowing continuation of service in the case of multiple failures. Changes to the platform are properlyplanned and implemented under formal Change Control, and the paired architecture allows upgrades without interruption ofservice.EncryptionThe system uses SSL security with an https URL and as such provides security in both directions with protection for both upstreamand downstream data. The SSL protocol runs above TCP/IP and below higher-level protocols such as HTTP or IMAP. It usesTCP/IP on behalf of the higher-level protocols, and in the process allows an SSL-enabled server to authenticate itself to an SSLenabledclient, allows the client to authenticate itself to the server, and allows both machines to establish an encrypted connection. The Perl ScriptPERL ScriptAs mentioned earlier in the document, BT will be providing a template script as an example of implementing the URL call.
