The fact that the other accessmethod is named “No-Directory” in [ISO15962] should not be taken to imply that thePacked Objects Access Method always includes a directory.18 ConformanceThe <strong>EPC</strong> <strong>Tag</strong> <strong>Data</strong> <strong>Standard</strong> by its nature has an impact on many parts of the <strong>EPC</strong>globalArchitecture Framework. Unlike other standards that define a specific hardware orsoftware interface, the <strong>Tag</strong> <strong>Data</strong> <strong>Standard</strong> defines data formats, along with procedures forconverting between equivalent formats. Both the data formats and the conversionprocedures are employed by a variety of hardware, software, and data components in anygiven system.This section defines what it means to conform to the <strong>EPC</strong> <strong>Tag</strong> <strong>Data</strong> <strong>Standard</strong>. As notedabove, there are many types of system components that have the potential to conform tovarious parts of the <strong>EPC</strong> <strong>Tag</strong> <strong>Data</strong> <strong>Standard</strong>, and these are enumerated below.18.1Conformance of RFID <strong>Tag</strong> <strong>Data</strong>The data programmed on a Gen 2 RFID <strong>Tag</strong> may be in conformance with the <strong>EPC</strong> <strong>Tag</strong><strong>Data</strong> <strong>Standard</strong> as specified below. Conformance may be assessed separately for thecontents of each memory bank.Each memory bank may be in an “uninitialized” state or an “initialized” state. Theuninitialized state indicates that the memory bank contains no data, and is typically onlyused between the time a tag is manufactured and the time it is first programmed for useby an application. The conformance requirements are given separately for each state,where applicable.18.1.1 Conformance of Reserved Memory Bank (Bank 00)The contents of the Reserved memory bank (Bank 00) of a Gen 2 tag is not subject toconformance to the <strong>EPC</strong> <strong>Tag</strong> <strong>Data</strong> <strong>Standard</strong>. The contents of the Reserved memory bankis specified in [UHFC1G2].18.1.2 Conformance of <strong>EPC</strong> Memory Bank (Bank 01)The contents of the <strong>EPC</strong> memory bank (Bank 01) of a Gen 2 tag is subject toconformance to the <strong>EPC</strong> <strong>Tag</strong> <strong>Data</strong> <strong>Standard</strong> as follows.The contents of the <strong>EPC</strong> memory bank conforms to the <strong>EPC</strong> <strong>Tag</strong> <strong>Data</strong> <strong>Standard</strong> in theuninitialized state if all of the following are true: Bit 17 h SHALL be set to zero.
