Therefore, applications that process historical data using EPCs shouldbe prepared for the possibility that an EPC may be reused over time to refer to differentphysical objects, unless the application is known to operate in an environment where suchreuse is prevented.Seven of the EPC schemes specified herein correspond to GS1 keys, and so EPCs fromthose schemes are used to identify physical objects that have a corresponding GS1 key.When assigning these types of EPCs to physical objects, all relevant GS1 rules must befollowed in addition to the rules specified herein. This includes the GS1 GeneralSpecifications [GS1GS10.0], the GTIN Allocation Rules, and so on.
