TermDefinedWhereMeaningAttribute Bits Section 11 An 8-bit field of control information that is stored inthe EPC Memory Bank of a Gen 2 RFID Tag whenthe tag contains an EPC. The Attribute Bits includesdata that guides the handling of the object to whichthe tag is affixed, for example a bit that indicates thepresence of hazardous material.Bar CodeControlInformationData CarrierElectronicProduct Code(EPC)Section 9.1Section 4A data carrier that holds text data in the form of lightand dark markings which may be read by an opticalreader device.Information that is used by data capture applicationsto help control the process of interacting with RFIDTags. Control Information includes data that helps acapturing application filter out tags from largepopulations to increase read efficiency, specialhandling information that affects the behavior ofcapturing application, information that controls tagsecurity features, and so on. Control Information istypically not passed directly to business applications,though Control Information may influence how acapturing application presents business data to thebusiness application level. Examplesof data carriers include Bar Codes and RFID Tags.A universal identifier for any physical object. TheEPC is designed so that every physical object ofinterest to information systems may be given an EPCthat is globally unique and persistent through time.The primary representation of an EPC is in the formof a Pure Identity EPC URI (q.v.), which is a uniquestring that may be used in information systems,electronic messages, databases, and other contexts.
