Arrange the digits as shown for the EPC URI. Note that the GTIN check digit d 14 isnot included in the EPC URI. For each serial number character s i , replace it with thecorresponding value in the “URI Form” column of Table 47 (Appendix A) – eitherthe character itself or a percent-escape triplet if s i is not a legal URI character.Example:EPC URI: urn:epc:id:sgtin:0614141.712345.32a%2FbGS1 element string: (01) 7 0614141 12345 1 (21) 32a/bSpaces have been added to the GS1 element string for clarity, but they are not normallypresent. In this example, the slash (/) character in the serial number must be representedas an escape triplet in the EPC URI.7.1.1 GTIN-12 and GTIN-13To find the EPC URI corresponding to the combination of a GTIN-12 or GTIN-13 and aserial number, first convert the GTIN-12 or GTIN-13 to a 14-digit number by adding twoor one leading zero characters, respectively, as shown in [GS1GS10.0] Section 3.3.2.Example:GTIN-12: 614141 12345 2Corresponding 14-digit number: 0 0614141 12345 2Corresponding SGTIN-EPC: urn:epc:id:sgtin:0614141.012345.SerialExample:GTIN-13: 0614141 12345 2Corresponding 14-digit number: 0 0614141 12345 2Corresponding SGTIN-EPC: urn:epc:id:sgtin:0614141.012345.SerialIn these examples, spaces have been added to the GTIN strings for clarity, but are neverencoded.7.1.2 GTIN-8 and RCN-8A GTIN-8 is a special case of the GTIN that is used to identify small trade items. The GTIN-8 code consists of eight digits N 1 , N 2 …N 8 , where the first digits N 1 to N L arethe GS1-8 Prefix (where L = 1, 2, or 3), the next digits N L+1 to N 7 are the Item Reference, and the last digit N 8 is the check digit. The GS1-8 Prefix is a one-, two-, or three-digitindex number, administered by the GS1 Global Office. It does not identify the origin ofthe item. The Item Reference is assigned by the GS1 Member Organisation. The GS1Member Organisations provide procedures for obtaining GTIN-8s.To find the EPC URI corresponding to the combination of a GTIN-8 and a serial number, the following procedure SHALL be used. For the purpose of the procedure definedabove in Section 7.1, the GS1 Company Prefix portion of the EPC shall be constructed byprepending five zeros to the first three digits of the GTIN-8; that is, the GS1 CompanyPrefix portion of the EPC is eight digits and shall be 00000N 1 N 2 N 3 .
