The GS1-8 Prefix is a one-, two-, or three-digitindex number, administered by the GS1 Global Office. It does not identify the origin ofthe item. The Item Reference is assigned by the GS1 Member Organisation. The GS1Member Organisations provide procedures for obtaining GTIN-8s.To find the EPC URI corresponding to the combination of a GTIN-8 and a serial number,the following procedure SHALL be used. For the purpose of the procedure definedabove in Section 7.1, the GS1 Company Prefix portion of the EPC shall be constructed byprepending five zeros to the first three digits of the GTIN-8; that is, the GS1 CompanyPrefix portion of the EPC is eight digits and shall be 00000N 1 N 2 N 3 .
