A future version of the<strong>EPC</strong>global <strong>Tag</strong> <strong>Data</strong> <strong>Standard</strong> may specify normative rules for using Company InternalNumbering codes in <strong>EPC</strong>s.7.1.4 Restricted Circulation (<strong>GS1</strong> Prefixes 02 and 20 – 29)The <strong>GS1</strong> General Specifications reserve codes beginning with either 02 or 20 through 29for restricted circulation for geopolitical areas defined by <strong>GS1</strong> member organizations andfor variable measure trade items. (See [<strong>GS1</strong><strong>GS1</strong>0.0], Sections 2.<strong>1.6</strong>.4 and 2.1.7.)These numbers SHALL NOT be used to construct SGTIN <strong>EPC</strong>s. A future version of the<strong>EPC</strong>global <strong>Tag</strong> <strong>Data</strong> <strong>Standard</strong> may specify normative rules for using RestrictedCirculation codes in <strong>EPC</strong>s.7.1.5 Coupon Code Identification for Restricted Distribution(<strong>GS1</strong> Prefixes 05, 99, 981, and 982)Coupons may be identified by constructing codes according to Sections 2.6.3, 2.6.4, and2.6.5 of the <strong>GS1</strong> General Specifications. The resulting numbers begin with <strong>GS1</strong> Prefixes05, 99, 981, or 982. Strictly speaking, however, a coupon is not a trade item, and thesecoupon codes are not actually trade item identification numbers.Therefore, coupon codes SHALL NOT be used to construct SGTIN <strong>EPC</strong>s.7.<strong>1.6</strong> Refund Receipt (<strong>GS1</strong> Prefix 980)Section 2.6.8 of the <strong>GS1</strong> General Specification specifies the construction of codes torepresent refund receipts, such as those created by bottle recycling machines forredemption at point-of-sale. The resulting number begins with <strong>GS1</strong> Prefix 980.
