The AGIwas developed in 2013 based on a growing recognition of the need to channelresources to a vital, yet highly vulnerable and vastly underserved, population ofadolescent girls in Uganda specifically.Child povertyChild poverty, based on international standards and the UN Convention on theRights of the Child (UNCRC), is defined as the proportion of children sufferingfrom deprivation in two or more of the following seven dimensions: nutrition,health, water, sanitation, shelter, education and information.Social protectionSocial protection is the set of public and private policies and programmes aimedat preventing, reducing and eliminating economic and social vulnerabilities topoverty and deprivation.viii
