the sample represents 20.8% <strong>of</strong> its total membership. As for the employment<br />

status <strong>of</strong> the participants, the majority <strong>of</strong> responses are from business<br />

people and/or the self-employed and employees: 45.9% and 38.8%<br />

<strong>of</strong> the total sample, respectively, as shown in Figure 1. <strong>The</strong> rest are unemployed<br />

and pensioners. As for place <strong>of</strong> residence, 82.5% <strong>of</strong> the responses<br />

are from economists living in Barcelona.<br />

Future <strong>of</strong> <strong>Catalonia</strong> within Spain<br />

53.7% <strong>of</strong> the economists taking part in the survey opted for an independent<br />

State for <strong>Catalonia</strong> as the best solution for its future political and economic<br />

relationship with the rest <strong>of</strong> the Spain, as shown in Figure 3.<br />
