DRIVEN TO BE THE BEST
Ontario Pavement Products Group
Slurry seal
Operations were at full capacity again for the
summer of 2014. We continue to lead the industry
in this business working throughout the province
applying slurry seal to rural side roads and urban
streets. Here we have a project in East Gwillimbury
just north of our Aurora office. 2014 was
no exception, our plate was full with a variety of
work including some micro surfacing for the City
of Ajax. We were fighting the weather most of the
summer but were able to get the work done on
time, even with a late season call for the Township
of Scugog. Thanks to a productive, quality and
safe conscious crew we had no accidents, or injuries
proving again that we are “Only The Best”
Tack Coat & Granular Sealing
We operated 4 certified, calibrated distributors which remained
busy this year keeping ahead of the paving crews in Southern
Ontario. Our operators have worked hard to ensure quality product
and distribution along with customer service as they tack
coat between the paver and the road working whatever shift is
required of them. Many thanks go out to all of our operators for
their hard work this season. They are “Only the Best”.
Of particular note was the Granular Sealing to the 404 extension,
this work was completed on a tight schedule as it is the last item
to be completed before the opening of the highway.
Milling & Pulverizing
2014 was a busy year for the milling and pulverizing operations.
These crews not only work extremely long hours, day
and night, they work throughout the Province, working in
the GTA one day and having to travel to the far north for
work the next.
Our milling machines range in size from a half meter to cut
joints and trim around irons to a full lane for high production
highway milling and profiling. These crews work in extreme
conditions day and night to get the pavement ready for the
hot mix crews that seem to have less and less time to place their mix. This season we milled at Pearson Airport for Pave AL and the
schedule and timelines were tight often requiring 2 machines to increase production to maintain schedules
Pulverizing/Stabilizing
This season with the sales help of Miller Northern we successfully marketed and completed one of the first roadway stabilizing
projects in the Temagami area, with cement powder. This process utilized 100% Miller materials and resources to stabilize very
poor roadway materials. The successful project will surely sell itself for future work in the area where many roadways exhibit high
clay content.
This group along with Brennan and Smith’s machines continued
to maintain the majority of the Ontario market share
all across the province. Our external customers call on Miller
as our reputation for excellent quality is widely known.
Thanks to our modern equipment and skilled operators we
continue to be “Only the Best”.
Micro Surfacing
2014 was a very busy season, both crews led by Larry Crozier and supervised
by Peter Mieske have been working steadily to complete the many projects
secured. As the season progressed so did rain however we were able to finish
all contract work. These two crews had no accidents or injuries this year
as safety was their first priority.
Surface Treatment 2014
Surface Treatment crew were busy as ever. It was a wet start,
but we managed to pull through and spray off millions of
Litres. MTO Sudbury District, AMC in Scope North Bay area,
Haliburton, Markham, Quinte West, Belleville and on down to
Prince Edward County.
Grade Crew 2014
Another busy season for the Grade crew. Off to a early start in Clarington, then
splitting into two crews just to keep ahead of the Surface Treatment program.
Working their way through the Muskoka District, North Bay Districts and eventually
lending a helping hand to the Northern Surface Treatment and paving crews. It’s
no secret, “they get around’.
Recycling
Our two recycling crews capable of using both
emulsion and expanded asphalt to recycle and
rehabilitate roads throughout Ontario and even
Manitoba. Scott Jennings and his crew spent
almost a month in Manitoba completing over 20
km of recycling and were commended for their
excellent work and respect for safety. Another
reason why these guys are “Only The Best”
Winter Works
In 2014 The Ontario Pavement Products group managed
the newly won Toronto York AMC yards of Kennedy Rd and
Gormley yards, these areas carry the majority of public and
commercial traffic in and out of Toronto and the performance
requirements are strict. Our operators are trained to
be “Only The Best”. We are fortunate to have such dedicated
winter staff to manage and perform these contracts. Our
operators are required to work in the worst of conditions on
the busiest roads and highways in the Province. Hats go off
to these guys and gals as they keep the roads safe for the
rest of us.
