Cement & Ready-Mix Concrete Operations
Miller Cement - Adapt & Let’s Grow
Miller Cement, as with any growing company, must continuously monitor, adapt and accept changes within the industry. These
fluctuations present several different challenges affecting many diverse components of the operation.
The slightest changes, however small, in our daily routines can and will compromise success. As an example: competition, abrupt
demands, administration processing and traffic to name a few. Market knowledge and industry affiliations, uniting partnerships
with third party brokerage firms and the constant development advances in technology in administrative software & GPS tracking
are a few illustrations contributing to the pace for another record breaking year.
Miller Concrete Aurora
Cement & Ready-Mix Concrete Operations
After a long cold winter and late spring the Aurora plant continued to stay busy with some large carry over projects from 2013.
These projects included VIVA NEXT H3 (Pave-Al Limited/Brennan Paving) and VIVA NEXT D1 (Brennan Paving). 2014 also saw
the completion of several projects including the Hwy 404 Extension (Brennan Paving), St. Andrews College Arena (Bolt Developments),
Holland Landing Pumping Station (Toronto Zenith/ Con Drain), Queensville West Pumping Station (Mettko) and 2nd
Concession Pumping Station (HiTech Structures/Con Drain).
Some notable new condominium projects started in 2014 include Tao Boutique Condos (Signature Communities/Synrg Group),
The 6th Angus Glen (Kylemore Communities/Saddlebrook Management), The Essential (Emery Condominiums), Centro Condos on
Yonge (Kaitlin Corp), Greenlife Condominiums (Delridge Homes) and Glengrove on The Park (LCL Builds).
The Centro Condos Aurora project is 6 story building. Due to ground conditions this project required a raft slab to be poured.
Pouring this slab was split into 2 pours. Both pours were completed over a 10 hour span and required 20 trucks each. That is a lot
of concrete very fast!
In August Miller Concrete hosted the 2014 RMCAO Truck Rodeo at our Pickering Waste Facility. Representing Miller Concrete were
drivers Bryan Houston, John Lefebvre and James Formica. Congratulations to Bryan Houston for his 1st place finish and John Lefebvre
for his 3rd place finish. Great job by all participants!
With the increasingly demand on our equipment and tanker fleet mandating further and longer obligations, evident changes to
increased scheduled maintenance is critical. Going further and expanding our boarders also means adapting to change in road
conditions and harsh settings. The daily sequence of loading and transferring of cement powder exists in an inevitable dusty environment
that also requires adaptation. Although it has its challenges, in order to uphold standards and the polished aluminum
shine, we have recently restructured our wash program adapting new practices with a new company.
Congratulations to all Miller Concrete employees for winning the 2013 CARE program award. We would like to thank all participants
and encourage all employees to continue with the great innovative suggestions helping us be ONLY THE BEST!
Miller Concrete Milton Ontario
Early 2014 saw the completion of several large projects after a record year for volume in 2013. High profile and demanding commercial
and public jobs included a ICF condo for Leedwall Const. in Milton, an New Public Health Office for Wellington County in
Guelph by Buttcon Ltd., and a expansion of an Alcon
Warehouse in Mississauga by Giffels Westpro.
With the challenges to service these jobs we still
managed to take on and look after our day to day
customers with the service and quality they had
come to expect from Miller Concrete. This was
accomplished by team work of all involved from
batcher to drivers to QC and sales.
For 2014 we are also focused on local jobs close
to our plant including a No Frills Store in Acton
with Stu-Cor Construction, a Retirement Home in
Georgetown with Nith Valley Construction, a first
time customer of Miller Concrete who has been
very pleased with service and quality, and the
Rockwood Library addition with KMA Contracting.
Fun Fact - We are on pace to have sold enough cement to manufacture enough concrete to
approximately build the CN Tower……stacked one on top of the other…. 20 Towers high!
