Miller Maintenance - AMCs Ontario
Thunder Bay West AMC
Thunder Bay Continued...
Miller Maintenance - AMCs Ontario
This year’s in-scope work consisted of one hundred
and forty thousand square meters of double surface
treatment, including granular A, grading, and centerline
culverts, forty kilometers of single surface treatment
and hot mix asphalt.
Our line painting crew, headed up by Allan Gibson,
traveled throughout Ontario, from the Niagara area
to Dryden, joining the other line painting trucks from
Owen Sound and New Liskeard to complete all the
AMC line painting for Miller Maintenance in Ontario.
Filling in pavement drop-off with the new Pavement Edger along Hwy
1y near Upsala. This unit is installed just ahead of the rear wheels so the
material is compacted immediately as the truck moves along the areas
of concern. The pavement edger is capable of applying both granular
and cold mix along the pavement edge and has reduced the frequency
of pavement edge drop off and has greatly increased efficiency, leading
to lower costs.
During Leo’s visit around Christmas of last year, we had
the opportunity to take this picture of Leo, Ross Reynolds
(General Manager, Miller Northwest), and Jean-Pierre
Breton (VP of Northern Operations) checking out our fine
fleet of Miller combination units at the Ignace Patrol Yard.
We are now using Tow Plows in
our Thunder Bay contract in areas
where there are numerous
truck climbing lanes, allows
both lanes of the climbing
lanes to be completed at once,
reducing the likelihood of
snow packed pavement and
therefor reducing the effort
to clear snow pack after the
winter event.
As in much of the province, Thunder Bay West’s
winter started early and ended late. The first
snow fell in early October and never left until
mid May, it made for one of the longest winters
in 35 years. This year already we are off to a bad
start with a heavy snowfall October 6, 2014.
This is a photo from Gary Turner, the Patrol Foreman
from Savant Lake, showing the snow banks
in his beat the following day.
And for those who choose not to follow the law up in the North,
you may get to ride in this little paddy wagon! (pictured below)
