Cement & Ready-Mix Concrete Operations
Portable Concrete Plants
Ambitious construction schedules were
a common theme between both of
Miller Concrete’s 2014 portable plant
projects. Miller supplied concrete over
two months to the Highway 404 Extension,
and even more concrete over five
months to the K2 Wind Farm.
Timely completion of each project
demonstrates that Miller has the people
and resources to support large concrete
supply contracts.
Construction on the Highway 404 Extension
was completed by Miller Paving
Limited for the Ontario Ministry of Transportation. Miller supplied cement-treated open graded drainage layer (OGDL) and slipform
concrete pavement from our Erie Strayer wet-batch concrete plant. This thirteen kilometer four-lane extension will remove
traffic from local roads, reduce travel time and support regional economic development.
AMEC Black & McDonald is building 140 turbines for K2 Wind Ontario’s 270 megawatt wind power farm in the Township of Ashfield-Colborne-Wawanosh.
Miller supplied turbine foundations from our Vince Hagan wet-batch plant. Concrete production rates
exceeding 150 cubic meters per hour helped crews complete foundation construction ahead of schedule. The K2 Wind Farm is
expected to provide enough electricity to power 100 000 homes annually.
After a successful construction season we are looking forward to taking on new challenges with our portable plants.
Miller Concrete – Whitby
The Whitby Plant continued to supply
large scale infrastructure projects
throughout 2014.
The Southeast Collector Sewer nears
completion with 50 MPa high performance
concrete supplied this
year. This was our 3rd year supplying
specialty mixes from 5 MPa lean mixes
to 50 MPa structural steel fibre mixes to
international underground contractor,
Strabag. Our liquid nitrogen cooling
system has been used extensively on
the project to meet the tight temperature
specifications.
The Hwy 407 extension project has
been in full gear with multiple bridge
structures under construction throughout
the area. More is to be supplied in
2015.
Other notable projects in Durham Region include the Clarington Police Station which is nearing completion with General Contractor
Graham Construction. The Courtice Incineator is set to open in spring 2015. Much volume has been supplied to Kenaidan
Contracting for the project. We have also been busy with a number of bridge replacement projects in the area.
