MUSIC
Japanese Psych Rock comes to
East Anglia, and recent Vicementioned
Town charts it’s
eclectic plethora of acts with
charity compilation.
Since last month’s issue, Norwich’s Owl
Sanctuary venue held host to Acid Mothers
Temple - the Japanese psychedelic rock band
who have been on the fringes of cult status
since 1995, with a discography even more
difficult to chart than the Grateful Dead.
The band have often been compared to kraut
rock standard bearers Can or Neu, alongside
the music’s clear psychedelic tendencies,
such as Gong or the Soft Machine. Support
came from the local post punk noise outfit,
Wreck Age, who’ve been tearing through the
Norwich scene for the past year or so.
Down the other end of the region, Local label
R*E*P*E*A*T Records have announced the
November release of ‘This Is The Sound Of
Sugartown’, a 12” vinyl and download album
featuring twelve acts from the UK’s unsung
DIY rock capital, Bury St Edmunds (which was
recently featured in an article on Vice’s sister
site, Noisey, charting the previous successors
of the scene).
Featuring new and exclusive tracks by acts
such as FORTUNATO, Horse Party and Pale
Fires, plus a cover painted by local artist and
musician (and former Long Blonde) Kate
Jackson, all profits from the compilation will
be donated to Bury St Edmunds Women’s
Refuge.
The LP is strictly limited to 300 copies and
can be pre-ordered from www.repeatfanzine.
bandcamp.com - there’s also a launch party on
the 14th of November at Vinyl Hunter Records,
where DJ sets will be happening from the
associated acts.
See you next month - Jack
