If you are painting with a light
colour it is likely you will need
two coats.
The process of conversion
requires little more than your
chosen piece, a paint brush
and an old sheet or newspaper
underneath.
One of my own projects is the
now ‘parchment’ coloured desk
with two draws pictured, which
used to be black!
This took me two coats of paint
and two separate hours with a
couple drying hours in-between.
If you have handles you do not
want to get any paint on tape
around them whilst working.
With any luck you’ll be happy
with your ‘new’ piece of furniture,
but you could even go one step
further.
For example on the parchment desk I used
sandpaper to achieve the very popular look of
‘shabby chic’!
Grazing the sandpaper over the edges and
some of the front panels took merely another 10
minutes once the top coat had dried.
Another extra would be the changing of handles,
which can give the piece a completely new style.
Pick up new handles from shops or find weird and
wonderful ones on eBay and Amazon.
EBay could also be the place to pick up an old
piece of furniture in need of attention if you want
to have a go but don’t have a piece already that
you want to use.
