5. Old Testament Theophanies
Ez 40: 3 He took me there, and I saw a man whose appearance
was like bronze; he was standing in the gateway with a linen
cord and a measuring rod in his hand.
Now we meet the Spirit which lifts Ezekiel and takes him to
another place.
5 Then the Spirit lifted me up and brought me into the inner
court, and the glory of the LORD filled the temple.6 While the
man was standing beside me, I heard someone speaking to me
from inside the temple.7 He said: "Son of man, this is the place
of my throne and the place for the soles of my feet. This is where
I will live among the Israelites forever. The house of Israel will
never again defile my holy name--neither they nor their kings--by
their prostitution and the lifeless idols of their kings at their high
places.
AMOS
Amos 4:10-11, "‘I sent a plague among you after the manner of
Egypt; I slew your young men by the sword along with your
captured horses, and I made the stench of your camp rise up in
your nostrils; yet you have not returned to Me,' declares the
LORD. ‘I overthrew you as God overthrew Sodom and Gomorrah
. . . '"
Jehovah is the one talking and He says, "I overthrew you as God
overthrew Sodom and Gomorrah..."
ISAIAH
Isaiah said:
Isaiah 6:2-7 ‘I saw the Lord seated on a high and lofty throne;
his grandeur filled the sanctuary. Above him stood seraphs,
each one with six wings; two to cover its face, two to cover its
feet and two for flying; and they were shouting these words to
each other. ‘Kadosh, kadosh, kadosh, holy, holy, holy His glory
fills the earth . . . Then one of the serphs flew to me, holding in
its hand a live coal which it had taken from the altar with a pair of
