6. The Anger <strong>of</strong> the Lord<br />
Angel <strong>of</strong> the Lord identified himself as God<br />
15 -17 The Angel <strong>of</strong> the LORD called to Abraham from heaven a<br />
second time and said, "I swear by myself, declares the LORD,<br />
that because you have done this and have not withheld your son,<br />
your only son, I will surely bless you…<br />
Here the Angel <strong>of</strong> the Lord is in talking from the Heaven and<br />
speaks in first person as God and swears by his person. Was<br />
this angel delivering a message from God in the first person as a<br />
quotation? Was this Angel sent or was God immanent in Him?<br />
4. God who wrestles with Man face to face.<br />
Gen 32: 24-30 Jacob wrestled with a man who turns out to be<br />
God<br />
So Jacob was left alone, and a man wrestled with him till<br />
daybreak. When the man saw that he could not overpower him,<br />
he touched the socket <strong>of</strong> Jacob's hip so that his hip was<br />
wrenched as he wrestled with the man. Then the man said, "Let<br />
me go, for it is daybreak." But Jacob replied, "I will not let you go<br />
unless you bless me." The man asked him, "What is your<br />
name?" "Jacob," he answered. Then the man said, "Your name<br />
will no longer be Jacob, but Israel, because you have struggled<br />
