Calling all aviation enthusiasts! Here are several movies that are must-sees if you like films centred<br />
around aviation. Regardless, even if you aren't an aviation fan, we promise you an enthralling time!<br />
TOP GUN<br />
Tom Cruise may be 53 years old now, but there are talks of a sequel to this eradefining<br />
aviation box-office flick. Did you know that Maverick (as he is known in the<br />
film) actually flew the US Navy's Air Superiority F-14 Tomcat fighter jets in Top Gun?<br />
He has also explicitly stated that a sequel to this movie will only be worthwhile if he<br />
gets to fly those jets again. No CGI (computer-generated images)! In this movie,<br />
Tom portrays the hotshot fighter pilot Maverick that meets his competition, hero<br />
and love interest at the US Navy's fighter-weapons school, Top Gun. Aerial dog<br />
fights, amazing soundtrack and noteworthy characters, this movie has even<br />
contributed to the increased number of US Navy recruits who had their own dreams<br />
of becoming Maverick.<br />
CON AIR<br />
Military choppers and smaller aircraft aside, the beauty of this film is the 'Jailbird',<br />
a Fairchild C-123K Provider aircraft that was slightly modified for the movie. The<br />
Jailbird is a prisoner transport aeroplane and a huge chunk of the movie takes<br />
place within this aircraft. The movie stars Nicolas Cage, John Malkovich, Steve<br />
Buscemi and John Cusack. It sees Cage as a newly paroled ex-con and former<br />
war hero who finds himself in the middle of things after convict passengers turn<br />
rogue and hijack the plane. A stellar cast and a stellar plane. Win-Win!<br />
AIR FORCE<br />
This 1943 classic black and white war and aviation film focused on the aftermath of<br />
Pearl Harbour and World War II. The film follows a crew on a bomber, a B-17 Flying<br />
Fortress, as they head to Hawaii on 6 December 1941 and arrive just after the<br />
Japanese bombed Pearl Harbour and Hickam Field. From there, they are sent to<br />
Manila, Philippines, to aid in their defence against enemy combatants. John Garfield<br />
stars in the movie which has a real gritty feel of the Pacific war and known as a tribute<br />
to those who served during WW2.<br />
