MARCHE AUX PUCES DE ST OUEN
Why:
It is widely known that Paris is flea market heaven
but the mother of all flea markets is Marché aux
Puces. Boasting up to 2,000 stalls, this flea market
offers everything from jewellery, chandeliers, eerie
religious relics, fabric and paintings to musical
instruments, vintage posters and eclectic French
collections which include vintage lace patterns
you probably will not find elsewhere in France.
Antique aficionados will be brimming with
enthusiasm at this market.
Where: Saint Ouen, Paris, France
When: Saturday (9am-6pm), Sunday (10am-6pm) and
Monday (11am-5pm)
TEMPLE STREET NIGHT MARKET
Why:
This is the time to put both your language and
haggling skills to use as you whip out phrases
from watching countless Cantonese language
Kung Fu films starring Bruce Lee or Jet Li. Trinkets,
tea ware, electronics, watches, menswear, jade
and antiques are all the rave at this night market.
Tip: For the best bargains: Avoid stalls and main
shops fronting the street where most tourists
usually browse. Try to find stalls or small shops
selling the same things behind these stalls or
slightly off the beaten track.
Where: Temple Street, Kowloon, Hong Kong
When: All week, 4pm-midnight
QUEEN VICTORIA MARKET
Why:
This market has plenty of events and specific
category-related items sold on certain days. So,
keep tabs on what's going on by visiting the
market website (qvm.com.au). For example, on
June 19, it was Car Boot Sunday. People sold
clothing, jewellery, books, tools, antiques and
pre-loved goods all from the back of their cars.
On August 28, it will be Plus Size Market. All
fashion is size 16 and above! You can meet and
buy direct from local independent designers or
score a bargain from pre-loved fashion purveyors.
