PORTOBELLO MARKET
Why:
If the street or surrounding environment strikes a
chord, that's because it reminds one of Brit romcom
Notting Hill starring Hugh Grant and Julia
Roberts. Antiques such as maps, books, silverware
and fur are available as well as jewellery, copperware
and quintessentially random knick knacks. The
market may be known for its large selection of
antiques but it also offers second hand goods
including clothes; great for any fashionista hoping
to pick up a bargain.
Where: Portobello Road, London, England

CHATUCHAK MARKET
Why:
Over 15,000 stalls crammed into a market area of
27 acres with hawkers squawking for you to buy
their wares. Thousands of stalls mean you can
pretty much get anything and everything from
T-shirts to silks, ceramics to silver, stylish handbags
to bamboo swings and handmade decorated
flowers to Buddhist amulets. Apart from regular
household pets on sale, lovers of less popular pets
might find the market helpful if they're looking for
mice, tree snakes, boas, geckos or iguanas.
Where: Kamphaeng Phet 2 Road, Chatuchak,
Bangkok, Thailand
When: Saturday and Sunday, 6am-6pm
THE SOUKS
Why:
It’s time to have some fun — savour the smell of
spices drifting up your nostrils, follow colour, go
where your eye takes you, turn into little alleys and
duck into the tiniest of shops. Walk past souks
filled with olives, pots, pans, tagines, brightlycoloured
glassware, shisha pipes, aromatic spices,
embellished kaftans, handcrafted bags — you
name it, they have it. Tip: Don't buy anything on
your first round, prices can drop if you return later
that day or the next.
Where: The souks are from Jemaa El Fna and continue in
a winding labyrinth until they hit the Marrakech
Museum.
When: All week from 8am-8pm
