Step 4: Management Options<br />

Figure 6-11 shows the screen for Step 4: Management Options. In this step, you configure<br />

Enterprise Manager, the user-friendly GUI <strong>to</strong>ol provided by <strong>Oracle</strong> for database administration.<br />

Its primary component is <strong>Database</strong> Control, which is used <strong>to</strong> manage a single<br />

database; a more advanced option called Grid Control can be used <strong>to</strong> manage all the<br />

databases in the enterprise from a single console. A major attraction of <strong>Database</strong> Control<br />

and Grid Control is that they are web applications and can be accessed using any Internet<br />

browser. Another major attraction is that they can moni<strong>to</strong>r the databases and can send<br />

e-mail notifications and pager notifications when problems are detected.
