Oracle Corporation. Oracle Database 11g Data Warehousing Guide. Oracle Corporation,
2007. This book pays much attention to SQL techniques that are particularly useful
when working with large databases such as materialized views, pipelined data
transformation, parallel operations, bitmap indexes, and star schemas. Searchable
or downloadable free of charge at . Printed copies can be
Oracle Corporation. Oracle Database 11g Performance Tuning Guide. Oracle Corporation,
2007. This is certainly the place to start, if only because it is searchable or downloadable
free of charge at . It covers all aspects of performance
tuning, including SQL tuning. Printed copies can be purchased from Oracle’s online
Antognini, Christian. Troubleshooting Oracle Performance. Apress, 2008. An excellent
book on Oracle performance issues, covering database tuning as well as SQL tuning.
The book is billed as “written for developers by an application developer who has
learned by doing.” If you had to buy just one book on performance tuning, this is the
one that I would recommend.
Harrison, Guy. Oracle SQL High- Performance Tuning (2nd Edition). Prentice Hall, 2001.
This book predates Oracle Database 9i and is fairly out-of- date but is one of only
a very small handful of books devoted exclusively to the subject of tuning SQL for
Oracle databases. Despite its lack of coverage of the latest techniques, it is an excellent
work and recommended reading for serious students.
