List Partitioning
In this form of partition, the refinancing criterion for each partition is a list of values.
Consider a retail chain that has stores in three states. We might store sales data in a table
created in the manner illustrated in Listing 7-2.

Range Partitioning
In this form of partition, the refinancing criterion for each partition is a range of values.
In the case described in the previous paragraph, we might alternatively store sales data in
a table created in the manner illustrated in Listing 7-3.
