Some of the objects in a schema, such as tables and indexes, represent blocks of s<strong>to</strong>rage;<br />

the others are actually definitions that are s<strong>to</strong>red in tables. For example, <br />

is simply a definition s<strong>to</strong>red in the table in the schema. An object that represents<br />

blocks of s<strong>to</strong>rage is called a segment. Listing 8-3 shows that only a few of the object types<br />

displayed in Listing 8-2 actually represent blocks of s<strong>to</strong>rage; the others are only definitions<br />

s<strong>to</strong>red in tables.<br />
