“I’D SAY MY
WORLD HAS
BEEN OPENED UP
AND I FEEL THAT
I HAVE MORE
CHOICES”
Based at our Hammersmith & Fulham College
and Southall Community College, the Inclusive
Learning Department offers a wide range of
courses to students with a variety of needs and
aspirations, including specialist programmes
that are designed to meet the needs of students
with profound and multiple learning disabilities
(PMLD). Our students learn by gaining hands-on
experience and developing skills, knowledge and
attitudes that can be used throughout life. We
encourage participation in everyday situations
to give our students the confidence to make the
most of opportunities as they transition into
adulthood. Our students also become community
aware by participating in activities and projects
outside of college. We aim to stretch and
challenge each student so they push themselves
to become the very best that they can be.
The staff team have considerable experience
to be able to support positive outcomes for all
students. Within Inclusive Learning we participate
in regular staff development and training sessions
to ensure that our strategies are informed by
best practice in the sector. We collaborate with
leading organisations that support specific
learning difficulties and disabilities, including:
Ambitious about Autism; Scope; Remploy;
Action on Disability; and Mencap. We believe
that every individual should be supported to
achieve realistic aspirations and that their
learning will be robustly planned, monitored and
recorded to evidence learner-centred outcomes.
Our learning environments provide access to
real life experiences that develop confidence,
communication and independence, which
supports individuals to positively progress as
adults that are independent and, in most cases,
can access the world of work.
