INTERNSHIPS
We are proud to offer a range of Supported Internships
for our students. These programmes are full-time, five
days per week and are based at the company’s place of
business.
GETTING READY FOR THE INTERNSHIP
Ideally interns will have successfully completed our Pathways to
Employment course or another pathway, and be ready for the commitment
that full time employment requires. We interview and assess students to
ensure they have the skills needed to enter the workplace and, once ready,
we take time to match the student with an employer who best fits their
needs and skills.
WHAT THE INTERNSHIP INVOLVES
Our interns work with their employers to develop transferable skills,
knowledge and attitudes in readiness for full-time paid employment. Our
current employers include Hammersmith and Fulham Council, Hilton,
Sofitel and L’Oréal.
Once matched with an employer and a role, our staff and the line
manager will work closely to ensure that the intern is eased gently into
their role, has practiced the journey and become familiar with their new
surroundings. Students will be supported to develop work skills by a job
coach and workplace buddies. Academic studies will include English and
Maths, supported by a teacher and learning support assistant. During
the programme, three job rotations will be completed so that a range of
different skills may be developed.
DURATION OF THE INTERNSHIP
Our internships generally last for a full academic year. During the last few
weeks of the placement, we will work with students on their job-seeking
and interview skills in order to give them the best possible chance of
securing paid employment.
Plans are in place to grow our Supported Internship offer further and open
up opportunities in other specialist areas.
