to the kids and to work with them as best they could.<br />
Besides doing schoolwork and academic exercises,<br />
our staff developed activities and exercises that were<br />
specific to our team concept and team building<br />
approach. Slowly the NYHDP created a curriculum<br />
that would eventually become very valuable for the<br />
program and its participants.<br />
The NYHDP was forced to end its partnership with<br />
the Kativik School Board at the end of the 2011-12<br />
season because there were so few teachers providing<br />
school reports on the participants’ attendance,<br />
behaviour and effort. It also became very inconsistent<br />
and unfair for the participants because we simply<br />
did not receive any reports for many of them. Sadly,<br />
sometimes the reports seemed to have been submitted<br />
for the purpose of punishing some kids so<br />
they would be cut from hockey. However, the NYHDP<br />
was introduced as an incentive and not for punishment.<br />
These unfortunate situations forced us to stop<br />
investing time and effort at trying to implement<br />
a region-wide hockey program that was linked to<br />
school reports of attendance, behaviour and effort<br />
as participation criteria.<br />
Also from the fall of 2012, tryout camps in<br />
Kuujjuaq were run on weekends to minimize the<br />
amount of school days missed by the participants.<br />
We decided to concentrate our off-ice time using the<br />
