It is very satisfying to see the NYHDP succeed at many levels<br />
while implementing a much-needed minor hockey structure<br />
in the communities and region. We have witness participation<br />
rates and skill levels increase in most communities, yet<br />
patience is still very critical for continued growth.<br />

NYHDP alumni and older players involved as local hockey trainers and hockey coaches.<br />
Major changes have taken place following the program’s<br />
sixth season and these necessary moves have proven to be<br />
very positive for the NYHDP. But there is still much work to be<br />
done to ensure that the NYHDP keeps on running and developing<br />
smoothly. Over the past eight years, it has grown to<br />
provide lots of opportunities to hundreds of youth in Nunavik.<br />
As the Kativik Regional Government had stated a while ago, the<br />
young age of the population could be a determining positive<br />
factor for Nunavik‘s future if efforts are made to raise youth<br />
in a healthy and stimulating environment. Future funding to<br />
ensure the continuation of this program would not only serve<br />
to provide a positive and safe environment that encourages<br />
many Inuit youth in Nunavik to be physically active, but also<br />
provide financial support to further improve the program<br />
through hiring and training of staff, which will ultimately<br />
benefit the region.<br />
<strong>Makivik</strong> is proud to support and promote this important<br />
program, which is financed under the Ungaluk component of<br />
the Sanarrutik Agreement.<br />
Joé Juneau is coordinating the Nunavik Youth Hockey<br />
Development Program program on behalf of <strong>Makivik</strong>. He has been<br />
doing so for the past eight years. <strong>Makivik</strong> has been supporting<br />
and promoting the program for all those years and we will table<br />
a new request for funding under the Ungaluk program very soon.<br />
Sammy Koneak, who is the <strong>Makivik</strong> board member for the JBNQA<br />
beneficiaries of Nunavik, is also working under the NYHDP.<br />
