Inverter Technology
A question that is frequently asked. “What is Inverter Technology”
Inverter technology is essentially an electrical principle. Electrical principle states that if we double the number of power cycles (Hz)
going into a transformer then we can halve the size of the transformer inside the welder. Each time the number of cycles is doubled
the size of the transformer is halved, this makes the required transformer very small and also very efficient. By using modern electronic
technology we can make the input cycles (Hz) to the transformer very high. The end result is a small, lightweight and very efficient
welder.
The number of power cycles for Australia and New Zealand is 50Hz
50Hz
Transformer eg. 100 Amps
100Hz
Transformer
@ 100 Amps has smaller size
How this is done in an Inverter welder is something like below.
Advantages of Inverter Technology Welders
• Size - A small lightweight welding machine is produced for in comparison to older style machines.
• Power consumption - Inverters are a lot more efficient than old transformer based welders.
• Reliability - UNIMIG inverters undergo methodical and rigorous testing prior to market release.
• Control - Inverters provide very accurate and easier adjustment of welder settings and parameters.
• Arc condition - The welding output is very smooth outperforming older transformer based welders.
• This smooth output provides superior arc characteristics and better control of the welding process.
