The 1990s was a historic decade for
the youngest nation in the Middle
East, the United Arab Emirates, with
unforeseen economic and political
events that shaped its modern-day
history.
It was also the decade
when entrepreneur Issa
Baluch came up with a
mission and a vision to
unite companies involved
in the freight and logistics
sector under one
organization. Thus, in
February 1992, the
National Association of
Freight and Logistics-UAE
(NAFL), was born with the
primary goal of helping the
industry grow further.
Back then, it was named the
National Committee of Freight
Forwarders (NCFF), the first of its
kind organization in the Arab world.
Its members just totaled 24.
Shortly after its establishment, with
the UAE government's assistance, it

became the first and only national
association from an Arabian Gulf
country to join the International
Federation of Freight Forwarders
Associations (FIATA). That historical
feat was made on March 31, 1992.
In 1995, the association launched
the NAFL Training Institute and from
then on has continuously provided
programs that aim to increase
industry knowledge and skills of the
members; expand the horizons of
human intellect and overall
p e r s o n a l i t y o f t h e t r a i n i n g
participants; help improve the
quality of work and work-life, and
most importantly, help increase the
productivity of the members that
help their organization further to
achieve their business goals.
Over the past nearly three decades,
NAFL's membership had grown to
