<strong>NAFL</strong>-Yearbook <strong>2018</strong><br />
The 1990s was a historic decade for<br />
the youngest nation in the Middle<br />
East, the United Arab Emirates, with<br />
unforeseen economic and political<br />
events that shaped its modern-day<br />
history.<br />
It was also the decade<br />
when entrepreneur Issa<br />
Baluch came up with a<br />
mission and a vision to<br />
unite companies involved<br />
in the freight and logistics<br />
sector under one<br />
organization. Thus, in<br />
February 1992, the<br />
National Association of<br />
Freight and Logistics-UAE<br />
(<strong>NAFL</strong>), was born with the<br />
primary goal of helping the<br />
industry grow further.<br />
Back then, it was named the<br />
National Committee of Freight<br />
Forwarders (NCFF), the first of its<br />
kind organization in the Arab world.<br />
Its members just totaled 24.<br />
Shortly after its establishment, with<br />
the UAE government's assistance, it<br />

– Issa Baluch, founder and first<br />
president of the National<br />
Association of Freight and<br />
Logistics – UAE (<strong>NAFL</strong>)<br />
became the first and only national<br />
association from an Arabian Gulf<br />
country to join the International<br />
Federation of Freight Forwarders<br />
Associations (FIATA). That historical<br />
feat was made on March 31, 1992.<br />
In 1995, the association launched<br />
the <strong>NAFL</strong> Training Institute and from<br />
then on has continuously provided<br />
programs that aim to increase<br />
industry knowledge and skills of the<br />
members; expand the horizons of<br />
human intellect and overall<br />
p e r s o n a l i t y o f t h e t r a i n i n g<br />
participants; help improve the<br />
quality of work and work-life, and<br />
most importantly, help increase the<br />
productivity of the members that<br />
help their organization further to<br />
achieve their business goals.<br />
Over the past nearly three decades,<br />
<strong>NAFL</strong>'s membership had grown to<br />
