Part II: Putting Facebook to Work<br />

Content syndication<br />

Another tactic to consider, if you have a steady stream of content, is to<br />

use Facebook as an outpost <strong>for</strong> your content. If you already have a blog,<br />

podcast series, or video series, you can effectively attract your Facebook<br />

audience to interact with — there<strong>for</strong>e displaying — those assets. (See<br />

Chapter 6.)<br />

You can syndicate content in a variety of ways on a Page, including:<br />

✓ Importing blog posts with Notes<br />

✓ Using the My Del.icio.us app to import bookmarks from your Delicious<br />

account<br />

✓ Using the Simply RSS app to gather all the RSS feeds you’re collecting on<br />

your company’s Web site<br />

✓ Editing your Links section to include blogs and Web sites you want to<br />

highlight, perhaps by employees or partners of your company<br />

✓ Uploading photos, videos, and podcasts (MP3 files) to your Facebook<br />

Page<br />

Don’t <strong>for</strong>get to edit your Wall settings to include complete versions of all your<br />

blog posts so that they appear not only on your business Page, but also on the<br />

News Feeds of all your fans.<br />

Contests<br />

Okay, after you create a presence on Facebook, advertise your company, perhaps<br />

create a custom app (or just use existing apps) to dress up your Page,<br />

and pull in and syndicate all your content, you might want to kick your <strong>marketing</strong><br />

campaign up a notch with a contest.<br />

Facebook has no official Contest app, but a few enterprising companies<br />

jumped on this opportunity to create their own app to fill the need of marketers<br />

wanting to run contests (see Figure 5-4). Contests tap into human<br />

nature’s competitive tendency and you can use them to help build your fan<br />

base, reward an existing fan base, or drive awareness of your brand. (See<br />

Chapter 13.)<br />
