• Quality Control is concerned with sampling, specifications<br />

and testing as well as the organisation, documentation and<br />

release procedures which ensure that the necessary and<br />

relevant tests are carried out, and that materials are not<br />

released for use, nor products released for sale or supply,<br />

until their quality has been judged satisfactory.<br />

Important remark on “monitoring<br />

protection”<br />

• We must always realize that “vaccination” and “protection” do not imply an<br />

absolute prevention of replication of a field infection.<br />

• In case of a severe field challenge or laboratory challenge there will always be<br />

some replication of the challenge strain in the flock.<br />

• The result of a successful vaccination will be that:<br />

Less birds in a flock are being infected.<br />

The infected birds will shed the challenge strain for a shorter period.<br />

The infected birds will disseminate lower amount of the challenge strain.<br />
