and testing as well as the organisation, documentation and
release procedures which ensure that the necessary and
relevant tests are carried out, and that materials are not
released for use, nor products released for sale or supply,
until their quality has been judged satisfactory.

Important remark on “monitoring
protection”
• We must always realize that “vaccination” and “protection” do not imply an
absolute prevention of replication of a field infection.
• In case of a severe field challenge or laboratory challenge there will always be
some replication of the challenge strain in the flock.
• The result of a successful vaccination will be that:
Less birds in a flock are being infected.
The infected birds will shed the challenge strain for a shorter period.
The infected birds will disseminate lower amount of the challenge strain.
