3 controversial inside the U.S. military as well. And the U.S.<br />
4 military sets up -- they do this every year. They set up<br />
5 certain debates on controversial issues where they want to<br />
6 discuss an issue. Central America was of great, great concern<br />
7 at this time.<br />
8 And so I believe it was five or six years in a row, I<br />
9 debated then Secretary of State for Latin American Affairs,<br />
10 Elliot Abrams, in front of members of the Joint Chiefs of<br />
11 Staff and the -- and different branches of the U.S. military.<br />
12 Q. Would the Joint Chiefs of Staff ask questions during the<br />
13 debate?<br />
14 A. The format of this is actually not public. I don't feel<br />
15 very comfortable.<br />
