3 And one of the things that strikes me over and over<br />
4 again, and you can see it in the declassified documents,<br />
5 although it's not part of the evidence of this, but you do<br />
6 see, over and over again, in some of the reports that went to<br />
7 Robert White or went to any of the other U.S. ambassadors, "We<br />
8 say we have a source, the source says," and you can read, the<br />
9 source will give them all kinds of things, and at the end,<br />
10 they say, "I would kill Colonel Majano if I could find him."<br />
11 You see that kind of feeling. And I think he had several<br />
12 attempts against his life, and he left.<br />

14 Q. You mentioned several times the declassified documents.<br />
15 Are these documents that have come to be declassified in the<br />
16 normal course of business over time by the U.S. government or<br />
17 something else?<br />
18 A. No. There is a period of time in which generally<br />
19 classified documents become public over a certain period of<br />
20 time. These have -- this period of time has been advanced in<br />
21 the case of El Salvador.<br />
22 Q. Was there a particular effort to do that?<br />
23 A. Yes. There were several efforts to do that. One was an<br />
24 effort by what is called the National Security Archives, using<br />
<strong>25</strong> the Freedom of Information Act, and challenging the secrecy of<br />

1 certain declassified documents and requesting that they be<br />
2 declassified.<br />
3 Q. The National Security Archives is --<br />
4 A. It's a private organization that tries to make public --<br />
