The fort of Thonburi was first built by timber, then
later bricks.
King Thonburi’s Palace was built by the river
at the point where Bangkok Yai Canal joined
Chao Phraya River (present day Navy Dockyard).
The location was previously the resident of
Thonburi’s Governor during the Ayutthaya
Kingdom. Two Buddhist temples: Wat Thai Talat
(Wat Molilokkayaram) and Wat Arun (the Temple
of Dawn or Wat Chaeng), flanked the Royal
Palace. Prominent architecture remained from
the Thonburi Royal Palace are the Throne Hall
and two Chinese Style Residences or “Phra
Tamnak Geng Khu”.
In 1779 under the reign of King Taksin,
Chaophraya Chakri led the army to Vientiane
where the Emerald Buddha was brought back
to Wat Arun. The Buddha became the palladium
of Siam.
Another architecture which still leaves
traces of the era is the Red Scripture Hall of Wat
Rakhang. The Hall had been the residence of
Chaophraya Chakri until he proclaimed King
Rama I of the Chakri Dynasty of Bangkok. King
Rama I granted the building to the temple as the
Scripture Hall.

披 耶 卻 克 里 、 也 就 是 后 来 登 基 为 拉 玛 一 世 的 住 宿 , 后 来 拉 玛 一 世 把 这 个
地 方 赠 与 瓦 拉 康 寺 作 为 僧 侣 的 住 所 。
曼 谷 城 的 建 筑 —— 吞 武 里 的 复 制 品
在 昭 披 耶 卻 克 里 登 基 称 帝 , 建 立 了 却 克 里 王 朝 , 成 为 该 王 朝 的 第 一
位 国 王 — 拉 玛 一 世 后 , 拉 玛 一 世 下 旨 将 都 城 的 中 心 从 吞 武 里 搬 迁 到 河 对
岸 , 通 过 从 湄 南 河 的 开 凿 出 新 的 河 道 , 将 都 城 的 方 向 挪 到 东 方 。 除 此 之
外 , 拉 玛 一 世 还 下 令 开 凿 两 条 新 的 河 道 以 便 把 新 旧 两 条 护 城 河 连 接 起 来 。
拉 玛 一 世 下 旨 修 筑 新 的 城 墙 , 并 且 设 立 了 十 四 座 堡 垒 , 但 是 现 在 只 剩 下
了 两 座 , 分 别 是 玛 哈 呷 堡 垒 和 帕 拉 苏 门 堡 垒 。
接 下 来 的 时 期 里 , 还 在 湄 南 河 的 东 边 , 也 就 是 吞 武 里 王 朝 皇 宫 的 对
岸 建 立 了 新 的 都 城 和 皇 宫 , 而 这 个 位 置 以 前 是 华 人 的 聚 居 地 , 被 称 为 “
华 人 区 ”。 拉 玛 一 世 下 旨 将 华 人 聚 居 区 搬 迁 到 城 墙 外 , 也 就 是 现 在 众 人
熟 知 的 三 聘 区 。
无 论 如 何 , 拉 玛 一 世 时 期 的 曼 谷 城 包 括 了 湄 南 河 两 岸 的 区 域 , 尽 管
将 都 城 全 部 从 吞 武 里 城 迁 移 到 了 河 对 岸 , 但 是 一 直 都 有 亲 王 居 住 和 进 行
管 理 。 因 此 , 可 以 说 曼 谷 的 建 筑 物 是 按 照 吞 武 里 来 仿 照 建 造 的 , 仅 仅 是
将 王 朝 政 治 权 利 中 心 进 行 了 转 移 而 已 。
ESTABLISHING BANGKOK
After King Rama I proclaimed King of the
Chakri Dynasty, he moved the center of the
Kingdom to Phra Nakhon, the eastern bank of
Chao Phraya. The King laid out a plan to expand
the city eastward by constructing a new canal
which started at the Chao Phraya River around
Banglamphu and curved down to Wat Bophit
Phimuk where the canal re-joined the Chao
Phraya River. The canal is nowadays known as
Khlong Ong Ang - Banglumphu or Khlong Rob
Krung. Two smaller canals – known as Khlong
Lot connect Khlong Rob Krung and Khlong Khu
Mueang Doem.
City walls along with fourteen forts were also
built; only two of which, Mahakan Fort and Phra
Sumen Fort still remain today.
The Grand Palace was built on the area on
the eastern bank of the Chao Phraya River which
had been homes to Chinese descendants called
“Bang Jeen”. The Chinese Community was
moved beyond the city walls – to an area
presently known as “Sampeng”.
