The more durable stucco decoration was
preferred to Thai architectural elements like chor
fa, bai raka, and hang hong. The tympanum
which had often been made of wood, gilded and
decorated with mirror tiles; was replaced by brick
and mortar, decorated with porcelain from
China. Motifs were influenced by Chinese art,
such as dragons, swans, and peonies. Examples
of the Phra Ratcha Niyom style in this period are
Wat Ratchaorotsaram, Wat Thepthidaram, Wat
Prodket Chettharam, Wat Nang Nong, and so on.
The interest in Chinese art had been around
since the reign of King Rama II. This was called
Kra-buan Jeen, literally means following Chinese
examples. In the reign of King Rama II, a garden
called Suan Kwa was built within the Grand
Palace walls. It was designed to be built in
Chinese style and the project was supervised by
Prince Chesadabodin, (the current title of King
Rama III at the time).
Garden ornaments from China, such as
rocks, Chinese stone statues, pagodas and so
on, were used to decorate the gardens. This was
the first time these intriguing elements were used
in the Grand Palace.
THE GREAT STUPA OF WAT ARUN – LANDMARK
OF BANGKOK
King Rama II realized that a large Phra That
(the great stupa) had never been built in
Bangkok, compared to Wat Mahathat of the
Ayutthaya Kingdom. As a result, Wat Arun was
restored and the Phra Prang or stupa was to be
enlarged to become a prominent feature.
However, only the foundation work was done
when the reign of King Rama II came to an end.
Therefore, when King Rama III succeeded his
father, he continued the project and supervised
the design and construction until it finished.
The core idea of the design of the stupa was
taken from Hindu cosmology. The central Phra
Prang symbolised Mount Meru, around which
four more Phra Prang were located. The five Phra
Prang symbolized the summits of Mount Meru.
Statues of Indra riding the elephant Erawan were
enshrined on the four Phra Prang. The pagoda
of Wat Arun is considered one of the most
exquisite – especially in terms of its scale and
proportion. It is also considered an architectural
style unique to Bangkok. And from then on,
the great stupa of Wat Arun has become the
landmark of Bangkok until today.

纹 也 越 来 越 流 行 和 受 到 大 家 的 欢 迎 , 例 如 : 中 国 龙 、 凤 凰 、 牡 丹 花 、 中
国 式 的 桌 椅 等 等 。 而 皇 家 建 筑 中 具 有 这 一 特 点 的 例 子 就 是 王 子 庙 、 特 帝
达 兰 寺 、 波 罗 克 珍 特 兰 寺 、 那 哝 寺 等 等 。
在 拉 玛 二 世 时 期 , 中 国 的 艺 术 文 化 已 经 开 始 流 行 了 , 可 以 看 作 是 对
中 国 装 饰 设 计 的 学 习 模 仿 。 后 来 拉 玛 二 世 国 王 下 旨 , 命 令 当 时 王 子 、 后
来 的 拉 玛 三 世 作 为 总 监 工 , 在 大 皇 宫 内 仿 照 中 国 装 饰 风 格 , 修 建 了 一 座
中 式 庄 园 。
那 一 次 的 工 程 , 所 有 的 装 饰 品 包 括 岩 石 、 人 物 雕 塑 、 亭 子 等 等 都 是
从 中 国 运 输 而 来 , 是 历 史 上 第 一 次 将 中 国 的 人 物 雕 塑 放 在 大 皇 宫 内 用 来
作 为 装 饰 , 在 当 时 看 来 , 可 以 说 是 一 件 令 人 非 常 惊 奇 的 事 情 。
曼 谷 地 标 性 佛 塔 — 黎 明 寺
拉 玛 二 世 国 王 曾 说 , 曼 谷 自 建 城 以 来 , 还 没 有 出 现 过 任 何 一 座 像 大
城 王 朝 时 期 的 玛 哈 泰 寺 一 样 , 可 以 作 为 城 市 象 征 的 大 型 文 化 建 筑 。 因 此 ,
国 王 下 令 修 复 吞 武 里 河 岸 这 边 的 黎 明 寺 , 同 时 将 其 进 行 了 扩 建 和 翻 新 ,
为 了 将 其 作 为 曼 谷 的 城 市 象 征 性 建 筑 。 但 在 拉 玛 二 世 王 去 世 时 , 工 程 仅
仅 是 完 成 了 主 佛 塔 的 修 建 。
后 来 , 当 拉 玛 三 世 登 基 执 政 之 后 , 继 续 完 成 拉 玛 二 世 留 下 的 政 务 ,
因 此 拉 玛 三 世 参 与 设 计 , 并 且 亲 自 监 工 修 建 , 知 道 整 个 工 程 完 工 。
这 座 黎 明 寺 , 在 设 计 的 时 候 , 是 以 过 去 的 佛 教 文 化 中 的 圣 地 作 为 设
计 理 念 的 主 体 , 将 佛 塔 主 体 比 喻 为 佛 教 文 化 中 的 须 弥 山 , 一 共 有 五 座 宝
塔 峰 , 比 喻 为 山 顶 的 帝 释 天 以 及 四 面 山 腰 的 四 大 天 王 。 这 座 黎 明 寺 可 以
说 是 比 例 设 计 最 漂 亮 的 佛 塔 , 而 且 真 正 的 体 现 了 当 时 曼 谷 佛 塔 建 筑 的 特
点 特 征 , 甚 至 从 那 个 时 期 一 直 到 现 在 , 这 座 佛 塔 都 可 以 称 之 为 是 曼 谷 重
要 的 地 标 性 建 筑 和 象 征 符 号 。
