Phra Phuttayotfa Bridge was a large bridge
connecting Phra Nakhon and Thonburi,
facilitating traffic between the two sides of
Chao Phraya River. This also resulted in social
and economic growth. Commercial and
entertainment districts in the Phra Nakhon area
such as Wang Burapha and Chalermkrung
Theatre followed as a result of this growth; while
Prajadhipok Road, Wong Wian Yai and Prachao
Taksin Road formed the commercial hub on
Thonburi.
Bangkok, in the reign of King Mongkut,
expanded eastward following the construction
of Bumrung Mueang Road and Rama I Road.
Later in the reign of King Chulalongkorn, the city
expanded northwards following the construction
of Ratchadamnoen Avenue, Dusit Palace, and
other road networks connecting Dusit Palace.
Subsequently, Bangkok expanded southwards
and across the River to Thonburi following the
construction of Phra Phuttayotfa Bridge and
Prajadhipok Road.

SIAMESE REVOLUTION
After the Siamese Revolution in 1932, the city
continued to grow. The extensive development
plan for Ratchadamnoen Klang Avenue was
realized. Buildings built in the style of “modern
architecture” were built on either side of the
Avenue, along with the Democracy Monument.
Phahonyothin Road was built to connect Lopburi
and other provinces to the north of Bangkok.
The road became a major road in this era and
led to the city expanding northward.
Many sections along Phahonyothin Road
became major hubs as a result of architectural
features being built during this period. For
example, the Victory Monument built in 1942
has now become the landmark of Bangkok.
As a consequence of the construction of
the monument, the area around it grew into
a residential and commercial hub. The
monument connects with Ratchawithi Road –
which leads to Dusit Palace as well as Krung Thon
Bridge (or Sang Hi Bridge), a bridge built in 1954
– 1958 spanning the two banks of Chao Phraya
River. All of this has become one of the major
transport route in the north of Bangkok.
Bang Khen, one of the bustling communities
along Phahonyothin Road, was significantly
modernized in the B.E. 2480s (A.D. 1937). After

路 、 律 实 皇 宫 及 其 他 交 通 干 道 的 修 建 , 使 得 城 市 发 展 朝 着 北 边 地 带 扩 张 。
由 于 修 建 新 皇 宫 的 原 因 , 南 边 地 带 也 在 拉 玛 一 世 纪 念 大 桥 修 建 成 功 后 的
影 响 下 , 各 个 方 面 也 开 始 了 新 的 发 展 。
“ 大 都 市 ”— 曼 谷 在 新 时 代 背 景 下 的 统 治 变 化
从 佛 历 2475 年 开 始 , 城 市 的 发 展 壮 大 突 飞 猛 进 , 首 先 是 完 成 了 扩
建 拉 差 丹 嫩 大 道 的 工 程 , 并 且 在 道 路 两 边 修 建 新 式 建 筑 风 格 的 楼 房 , 还
修 建 一 世 皇 胜 利 纪 念 碑 , 以 及 新 修 公 路 一 直 往 北 延 伸 直 达 华 富 里 府 和 北
部 其 他 外 府 。 拍 凤 裕 庭 路 则 成 为 了 当 时 非 常 重 要 的 交 通 干 道 而 且 对 城 市
