Bangkok Walking Guide

Similar to the former capital city of Ayutthaya,
Bangkok is not only a multicultural city
metropolis, but it also inherits the town-planning
traditions from the old capital. The old and the
new fascinatingly fuse together, making Bangkok
an extremely appealing city for tourists. Just as
works of architecture is an excellent depiction
of culture and way of life, so too Bangkok architecture
of different periods and styles - from
traditional Thai architecture to Western-style
building, from International Style of post 1932 era
to contemporary architecture of the present time
- reflect a transformation of ways of life in Bangkok.
In 2012, the first edition of Bangkok Walking
Guide: ASA Architectural Awards was published
and well-received by architecture-lovers. The
book comprises works of architecture awarded
by the Association of Siamese Architects Under
Royal Patronage (ASA) under the categories of
Architectural Conservation and Architectural
Design. This award was inaugurated in 1982 – the
year of the city’s bicentennial celebration - and
since then until the present Her Royal Highness
Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn has granted
Royal audience to the ASA award recipients
given a trophy engraved with the Princess’ initials.
In 2017, the Association of Siamese Architects
under Royal Patronage realises the needs to
update and create a more comprehensive
database. As a result, more than 100 buildings
awarded between 1982 - 2017 are put together in
the form of walking routes. These also include
other landmark buildings and nearby places of
interest. The book is presented in 3 languages:
Thai, English and Mandarin Chinese.
I sincerely hope that this publication will
guide readers to experience the hidden architectural
gems of Bangkok and thus to realise the
importance of preserving our heritage for the
next generations.

曼 谷 从 大 城 王 朝 时 期 以 来 , 就 一 直 是 一 个 拥 有 着 多 元 文 化 的 大 城
市 。 不 仅 拥 有 大 城 王 朝 时 期 古 老 的 城 市 建 设 文 化 , 还 有 融 合 了 传 统 和 现

2012 年 ,《Bangkok Walking Guide : ASA Architectural
Awards》 首 次 出 版 , 呈 现 在 喜 欢 建 筑 的 读 者 视 野 中 , 该 书 籍 介 绍 了 荣 获
“ 优 秀 建 筑 艺 术 奖 ” 的 建 筑 物 和 荣 获 泰 国 皇 家 建 筑 师 协 会 认 可 的 杰 出 建
筑 物 , 并 且 在 佛 历 2525-2553 年 期 间 荣 获 欣 诗 琳 通 公 主 殿 下 亲 自 颁 发 的
刻 有 国 王 签 名 的 奖 杯 。 此 奖 项 是 在 曼 谷 市 200 周 年 庆 典 活 动 中 首 次 颁 发 的 。
2016 年 , 随 着 时 代 的 发 展 , 泰 国 建 筑 师 协 会 看 到 了 在 内 容 修 正 和
更 新 上 的 重 要 性 , 使 得 书 籍 内 容 更 加 全 面 和 权 威 。 所 以 泰 国 建 筑 师 协 会
开 始 收 集 1986-2017 年 之 内 的 一 百 多 座 获 奖 的 建 筑 , 然 后 分 类 排 序 以 便
于 让 读 者 欣 赏 阅 读 , 期 中 还 包 括 各 个 建 筑 点 附 近 的 旅 游 咨 询 。 同 时 该 书
籍 使 用 三 种 语 言 : 泰 语 , 英 语 和 中 文 以 满 足 不 同 地 区 读 者 的 需 求 。
希 望 这 本 书 能 够 给 读 者 提 供 很 多 关 于 泰 国 建 筑 的 信 息 , 使 读 者 了 解
每 一 个 不 同 的 城 市 里 的 建 筑 , 并 且 能 够 从 中 获 得 隐 藏 在 建 筑 背 后 的 乐 趣
